Things I Love Thursday

It’s Thursday again reader so check out this week's fresh crop of fantastic things:

High on my list this week is this quote which began circulating the web after the assassination of Osama Bin Laden. It was originally falsely attributed to Martin Luther King Jr. I don’t know who the real author is however for me not knowing doesn’t make the quote any less beautiful or valid...

"I mourn the loss of thousands of precious lives, but I will not rejoice in the death of one, not even an enemy."

Animated GIFs as an art form, this is fantastic.

Also winning my heart over this week:
picnics in the sunshine, wedding invitations from treasured friends, democracy and I have love for you reader if you took part in the referendum and/or exercised your right to vote today- even if it was for someone I'd disapprove of, when the wind blows it snows cherry blossom petals, friends rediscovering their creativity, sharing my mini crème eggs with the plumber over afternoon tea- a small action for me but it made his whole face light up.

What’s making your week sparkle reader?

Thoughtful Tuesday

Now is the time to get drunk! To stop being the martyred slaves of time, to get absolutely drunk - on wine, poetry, or on virtue, as you please.
-Charles Baudelaire, "Enivrez-vous," Paris Spleen, 1869

Cheers reader!

Friday Find

In, er, honour of the royal wedding here’s today’s Friday Find:

I wish William &Kate Catherine all the best for their future but I sharn’t be tuning in. I’m not astringently boycotting it either it just happens that I have other commitments today and that I'm not that disappointed, despite the medias best attempts to whip up a frenzy, or more likely because of the medias attempts, I admit to being rather ambivalent about it.
Will you be watching the Royal Wedding shenanigans today reader?

Things I Love Thursday

For one reason and another, mostly self-indulgent twaddle, I took a brief hiatus from blogging and so missed last weeks Things I Love Thursday. This week here’s a bumper crop of old favourites I can’t live without and new things I can’t wait to live with:

Top of my list this week is the truth and beauty of the message of Easter- Grace (God’s Riches At Christ’s Expense). In the words of CS Lewis, a quote which a wise friend posted earlier this week-
"Christ died for men precisely because men are not worth dying for;
to make them worth it."

Chocolate- I gave up sweet treats (including but not limited to chocolate, sweets, cake & biscuits) as part of my lent challenge. I have a particularly sweet tooth, more like a whole mouthful, so at times it certainly was a test of my discipline. Since Sunday I have been enjoying lots of tasty treats, been a bit naughty really, which is not entirely unrelated to the fact that my brother & his lovely little family are visiting this week. Back on the healthy eating band wagon next week.

Doctor Who- FANTASTIC. Don’t worry reader, in the words of River Song ‘no spoilers sweetie.’ The new series opened with a wonderfully brain-scrambling two-parter and I am eagerly awaiting the conclusion on Saturday.

Also high on my list this week a surprise package from one of my beautiful best friends, who lives too far away, tiffin for an ‘afternoon tea’ treat. I am very lucky dear reader to have such kind and thoughtful friends.

Noteworthy Niblets:
A publishers postbag, walks around the lake followed by delicious pub grub with the extended family, the tagline on Twitter of one of my favourite musical comedians and fellow Doctor Who fan ‘wibbly wobbly rhymey wimey’, legoland & the look of sheer wonder on little man’s face, sunshine earl grey and tiffin, Daily-mail-o-matic,accomplishing something before the microwave beeps

What’s making your love list dear reader?

Friday Find

Following on from last weeks odd names for occupations this weeks friday find brings some wonderfully whimsically named but no less true methods of fishing.

Noodling- A type of fishing using only bare hands
Jigging- This type of fishing involves the use of a lure or drop bait called a jig. It is designed to resemble and move like the prey of a fish.
Trolling- This method is used mainly in commercial fishing as it is designed to catch a mass of fish usually fairly quickly. It involves dragging an artitificial lure, or even a live bait along behind a boat.
bottom bouncing- As the name implies, bottom bouncing apparently involves keeping the bait on or near the bottom of a river

Of course, the BEST way to catch fish is fish calling
Exhibit A.
