It is reported that in 1963 Baseball pitcher Gaylord Perry remarked, “they’ll put a man on the moon before I hit a home run”. However other variants on this story attribute the joke to his manager Alvin Dark. Either way on July 20, 1969, just minutes after Neil Armstrong set foot on the moon, Gaylord Perry hit his first home run.
An additional fact reader -Gaylord Perry was named after a close friend of his father's, who died while having his teeth pulled.
